The Waiakea Lions Club is proud to recognize Hawaii Island’s Enterprise Holdings as a partner in helping to meet the vision needs of local, national and international populations by providing used eyeglasses for recycling.
Lions Clubs International collects, cleans and identifies the prescriptions of used eyeglasses, which are then distributed worldwide.
Enterprise Holdings, representing auto rental firms Alamo, Enterprise and National at both the Hilo and Kona airports, collects eyeglasses and sun glasses that are left in the cars. They keep them in lost-and-found for three months, and if they are not claimed, then the eyewear is donated for recycling.
More than 100 pounds of eyewear are donated each year by Enterprise to the Waiakea Lions Club. Lion Ken Rosene leads the eyewear collection efforts.
“It is an honor and privilege to partner with a company that exemplifies the true meaning of aloha,” said Waiakea Lions Club president Stephanie Clark.
